Although human mom often label me as "anti-social" or "anti-establishment" because I sometimes prefer to be alone, I am actually a very social rabbit.

Everytime when I chit-chat with some other rabbits, I learn different things. From rabbit dad, I learn how to escape punishment from our human owners even after being naughty and mischievous. Rabbit dad taught me how to show the "Who, Me?" look to escape punishment. In fact, rabbit dad has been my idol for quite some time. I think I would like to be like him when I grow up.

Rabbit mom had taught me a lot too. I love rabbit mom a lot. She tell me tales of how she managed to survive among other very aggressive rabbits when she was still young. Then her life changed after human mom brought her home and adopted her. She taught me how to mind my own business and to be fierce when times demanded so.

From rabbit mom, I've learnt to bite when I need to. So now, human mom and dad, you now know where I get my biting skill from. Just like rabbit mom, I've also learnt to take care of other rabbits by consistently grooming them. I've also learnt not to be choosy about what I eat. Rabbit mom had taught me that when she was young, she had to fight with other rabbits just to get small portion of her food. That is why I do not reject any food that is fed to me.

Zhai Zhai has always been a big brother to me. Sometimes in the morning, when rabbit dad is hungry and irritated, he will nib me for no reasons. Zhai Zhai will always be there to protect me. After all, I am the youngest rabbit and will always be the baby of the house. That is what human mom told me.

Posted by: BeBe

Who Me?

Here is the most useful tip for all of you bunnies out there. It is inevitable that pet rabbits make “mistakes”. Sometimes, these “mistakes” consists of dropping our poo poo everywhere in the house, accidentally chewing on the furniture and damaging electrical cords.

Actually to us the rabbits, those are not mistakes. There are things that every rabbits will do. They become mistakes only when our owners discover them and started scolding us. Although we could not understand why our owners consider them as mistakes, as we like to be good house pet rabbits, we will just accept them.

However, sometimes, instead of just cleaning up after us, for some strange reasons, our owners decides to punish us by putting us back into the cage or continue to nag us. Senior rabbit like me knows when this is coming. So the best strategy is to feign innocence by showing the “Who, Me?” look.

This is how you do it. Supposing that you had accidentally caused some bottles to topple as you attempted to jump into some narrow spaces behind the furniture that your owners had always prohibited you entering. Before your owners reached, you quickly jump out of the prohibited space and pretended that you are frightened, and with a most pitiful face, show the “Who, Me?” look.

Most of the times, our owners would think that the bottles fell due to the strong wind and it had frightened us. However, sometimes, our owners are not taken in so easily by our tricks. Then, that is the time to lie still at one corner of the house, and look at them with an angry look, as if they are the guilty one. You may get some nagging, but likely they will still carry you in their arms and started patting you.

So, the next time you made some “mistakes”, instead of becoming panic and ran away, why not try the “Who, Me?” look. You can also try the “No, it’s not me” look, but to me, the “Who, Me?” look seems to work better as human hearts are easily softened and charmed by a rabbit’s innocent look.

Posted by: Bit Bit

Rabbits See Rabbits Do

If any of our readers are considering of getting a rabbit as pet, be forwarned about this: rabbits are very intelligent animals and we learn fast.

Not only we learn by observing how other rabbits behave, but we know how to read blogs posted by other rabbits too. Take me for an example.

For the past two months, I have been wondering why Zhai Zhai kept disappearing from the house and I have been searching for him high and low. Eventually, I found out that he had found a new playground and have been indulging himself with his new-found playground. I had tried to pester him to show me to the playground, but he refused for he had promised human dad that he shall keep it a secret.

Being a proud rabbit, Zhai Zhai was unable to keep things to himself, and finally posted his experience on this Pet Rabbit Tales blog. As I always keep myself updated on current affairs, I read the blog and from the photo on this blog, you would see that I now have found the playground too.

Needless to say, human mom and dad is not too happy about this. But being the servants of rabbits, I guess they have to live with our bunny tricks.

Posted by: BeBe

Pet Rabbits Trick

Since my last post on Pet Rabbit Tales site, many readers especially my other bunny friends were curious to find out more how I did my stunt of jumping in between the washing machine and the large water pail.

To cut a long story short, I've decided to use some photo to show how I did it. After stepping up on the litter box, I will focus and aim for the narrow slot between the washing machine and the pail. Needless to say, as I am a very intelligent rabbit who would scores "A"s for mathematics, I measure the width of the slot using my perfect 6/6 eyesight to ensure that I do not get stuck. It would be embarrassing if I have to shout for help.

The following photo show me after I've jumped through the narrow slot:

This is me, on the other side of the pail:

This is how I jumped out:

The final photo show Bit Bit, the rabbit dad scolding me and checking if I am alright:

So, there you have it. For potential pet rabbit owners, pet rabbit care is not difficult at all but you have to be prepared for many surprises.

That's all for today's post. However, when it comes to listening to our owners command or instructions, our ears work differently. For quite some time, human mom and dad have been saying that I have the biggest ears among all the pet rabbits in the family, but I don't listen.

Actually I listen, but selectively. For example, when human mom and dad were saying good things about me, I will listen. When they take the pellets container containing my favourite pellets, I will quickly come close. When I see that they are feeding carrot, my ear's sensitivity depends on my tummy. If I am very hungry, then I will respond to my name when called.

When human mom asked me not to go into the toilet, I usually don't listen. However, when I am already in the toilet and poo poo, my ears are very sensitive to any approaching foot steps and I will quickly leave the toilet pretending that nothing had happened.

Recently, I have discovered an interesting playground in the house. I find that I can effortless jump in-between the washing machine and a large water container and do a disappearing act behind the water container. When human mom or human dad came looking for me, well, you can guessed it -- for some reasons, my ears are not responding to being called. And when all is quiet and calm, I will again make an effortless jump and come out again. If human dad scolded me, I don't like it and I will just return to the cage.

However, even though I am playful and sometimes naughty, there is one instruction that I have listened to human dad regarding the newly discovered playground -- not to show it to BeBe. That, I know I have listen and can obey.

Posted by : Zhai Zhai

Happy Valentine's Day

In case you are asking why Bit Bit was not in the picture, the answer is actually quite obvious. Bit Bit is not in the picture because he is holding the camera, dude!

Sorry for being rude, but anyway, it's Valentine's Day. Happy Valentine's day. Everyone should be celebrating Valentine's Day. Human mom told us that Valentine's Day is not just for human or for those who are in love, it's for everyone, including we the rabbits too.

That is why we were especially happy this morning. After our breakfast, we were let out of the cage. Bit Bit always have the privilege to be out earlier and was already in the midst of his morning nap when the other rabbits were allowed out.

We fully utilise every minute of our time out to create problems for human dad. He had to chase us out of the study room (a few times!) when we successfully push open the door to let ourselves in. We had lots of fun in the balcony, doing the binky in the living room and chasing each other.

Zhai Zhai was so happy that he invited human dad to see some stunts that he was about to perform. When human dad followed him to the yard, he steadily and speedily jumped on the litter box and before anyone knew it he had hopped in-between the big water pail and the washing machine and did a disappearing act behind the water pail.

Human dad had to use an umbrella to chase Zhai Zhai out. Then, we had plenty of fun playing behind the door of the yard and this made human dad quite furious with us. Boy, how we love Valentine's Day.

By the way, in case you readers really believe us when we said that Bit Bit was holding the camera, it's April Fool jokes in advance. Bit Bit was not in the picture because he was eating from another bowl, all by himself!. He had pleaded with the rabbit family not to let his secret out in case human dad and mom were to find out, but today is one of those days that we are especially naughty. So, the photo below is the evidence:

Posted by Moi Moi, Zhai Zhai and BeBe

It's Vacation Time Again

It's time for another vacation -- for both my human guardian and myself.

As my human guardian would be away for few days, they have put me up with the Pet Rabbit family again. Those who have been following this blog would recall that the last time I boarded with them, I was injured by Zhai Zhai and the initial one week boarding lasted to three weeks to enable my full recovery.

Many things are different this time round. Firstly, Bulldog is no longer with us. Initially, I was very worried how the Pet Rabbit Family would treat me. Human guardian was worried too -- she kept reminding human mom and dad to spend time with me.

This time round, I was allowed plenty of time out of the cage, even for longer time compared to Zhai Zhai, BeBe and Moi Moi. As usual, Bit Bit always welcomed anyone as long as they don't disturb his food or sleep. My cage was placed in the living room, and when Bit Bit was first allowed out of his cage, he ran pass my cage only to do a bunny flop under the dining table. He did not even noticed an additional rabbit in the house!

Human dad had to wake him up, carry him to the front of my cage and his expression was like, "Oh.. so you came back! I am sleepy now. Good nite!"

Within very short time of staying here, I quickly warm up to the new environment and made good friend with Bit Bit. You see, I missed Bulldog tremendously since he had crossed the Rainbow Bridge a few months back, I have not had any rabbit companion. Bit Bit's size is big enough to remind me of Bulldog and he is sure nice to snuggle with.

Let me tell you our readers one secret. Within days, I am so accustomed to my routine here that I thought I would be staying here forever, which I do not mind. Please don't tell my human guardian. Alas, all vacations must come to an end, and it is time to go home. I believe human mom and dad surely miss me too as I could hear them asking each other, when will my human guardian be going for her vacation again?

Human dad even composed a ryhme about me, "White Nose, White Nose, Nose White White". He claimed that the ryhme will cheer me on. All in all, it has been a great vacation, and I sure miss everyone and hope to spend the next vacation here again soon.

Posted by: White Nose

Happy Gotcha' Day

February 1st is my Gotcha' day. It was on this day 5 years ago that human dad and mom first brought me home. Five years is a long time in a rabbit's lifetime. In this 5 years, I have climbed mountains, cross rivers and watched sunsets at the beach.

Needless to say, I've got myself a wife and had seven bunnies.

What are the things that I look forward to towards the next 5 years? Being a rabbit who had seen that and done that, all I think I bother now is getting my regular long nap and favourite food.

I will also continue to enjoy the regular petting sessions that human mom and dad has been giving me everyday, while they are glued to the TV. Considering that I have been living a healthy and happy lives, 5 years would probably be equal to 45 years of a human life? Well, I do know for sure, but I would surely like to celebrate many more Gotcha' days to come.

This will be a short post, I need to get my afternoon nap. After all, rabbits should be sleeping at this time of the day, shouldn't they?

Posted by: Bit Bit

Rabbit Boarding - Getting to Know New Friends

One of the worst events that pet rabbits could ever imagine happening to them is that their owners will be leaving them for a period of time. While we sometimes dread the continuous nagging of our owners, we surely can't bear to be separated from them even for a short period of time. It is all the more unbearable if the separation takes more than 3 days. If the separation is 5 days, we guessed we will die missing our owners.

Alas, human is a strange species and could still bear to leave us boarding at a place we are not even familiar with, all on the pretext of going for holiday! Being the most senior rabbit of the house, I've already sensed that our owners will be going away for quite some time when I observed that they have been treating us nicer than they usually do. These arose from their sense of guilt, I bet.

The other three rabbits were not that aware until they see our human owners packing their clothes into the luggage bag. And then on one fine afternoon, after feeding us, they packed us and our belongings and brought us to Dr. Hoo's (our vet) office. It is never a nice feeling stepping (or rather being carried) into a vet's clinic, as all pets will agree with me.

After placing us into a big cage, human mom and dad instructed on the feeding portion to Dr. Hoo's assistant. Soon, it was time for human mom and dad to say good-bye. All of us remained quiet and lonesome for a while before the puppy sitting opposite us started being chatty.

We can see that he had injured his back quite badly. Looking from one storey above is a cat named Barbara (or so I thought). She is a beautiful cat and kept staring at me. I think she must have a crush on me and I have to quickly explain to her that I've already had a wife, Moi Moi. Her lusty look soon turned into hungry look as she observed how fat some of us are.

We do not enjoy pet boarding at all except for one thing. The food. Not that they taste any different as human mom and dad brought our own food but the portion. It seems that Dr Hoo's assistant are always easily tricked to believe that we are always hungry and at the verge of dying that he always feed us very often. That's great!

When human mom and dad finally picked us one week later, their first reaction was astonished look at how much weight we had gained. Well, you can't blame us -- you are on holiday and so we are too. We sure missed those extra food but boy, we are glad to be going home again. We are glad that we survived the 7-day boarding.

Posted by: Bit Bit

Tales of Rabbit Paralysis

Our readers who have been following our posts at this blog will remember me. I am Bulldog and am part of the Pet Rabbits Family until I was given up for adoption. We had a pet rabbit family reunion just a few months ago when we were temporarily boarded with the pet rabbit family.

About 3 weeks ago, my human guardian discovered that I had lost control of my hind legs and they brought me to see the vet. The vet provided some ointment to be applied. Convinced that my condition could have been worse than what the vet had diagnosed, my human guardian brought me to see another vet.

The vet took photo of my bones. It was certainly news to me to know that vets have cameras that can take photo of my bones. I have seen our human guardian using their cameras to take my photos but they have not told me that there are cameras that can take photo of rabbit bones! I can’t wait to reach home to show my sibling, White Nose, the photo of my bones.

The diagnosis given by the vet was somehow disappointing. I was diagnosed as paralysed due to some abnormality in my back bone. The vet explained that rabbit paralysis is quite common. By now, I am aware how serious my condition was and I could see that my human guardian was crying her eyes red. They also discussed if they would need to send me to cross the rainbow bridge.

For our readers who have not heard of the rainbow bridge, it is the bridge that all pets cross when they are done in this world. Some of them crossed the rainbow bridge due to illness. Some crossed it due to accident. There are also occasions when owners need to make the painful decision to send their pets to cross the rainbow bridge to cut short their sufferings in this world.

Whatever reason it is, at the other side of the rainbow bridge, all pets are restored to health and wellness. There are plenty of food and endless playtime for us as we wait patiently for our human owners to join us one day in the future.

Not wanting to believe that my time had come to cross the rainbow bridge, our human guardians brought me to see another vet. This time, the vet gave a more detailed diagnosis about my condition. It seemed that my bones had degenerated and this condition is not reversible. However, the vet prescribed some medications hoping to help me improve.

Just today, I was brought to visit the vet again. We have to wait for a long time (I am still learning to read the time) before the vet attended to us. The patient before us was an ugly bulldog. Yes, I meant a real bulldog. The human owner of the bulldog was more friendly compared to the bulldog, I think. She asked our human guardian for my name, and when I was introduced as Bulldog, she didn’t want to believe us. How strange!

I have also made friends with few other canine creatures. One of them was named Dong Dong. He’s a male and yet his owner tied a ribbon around his ears! There is also Mr. Douberman who looked so imposing. His human owners said that he is actually very gentle, but I think she must be bluffing. I sometimes find human strange species. All of them thought that I was cute however, and I concealed my condition so well that none of them even noticed. So you see, rabbits know how to bluff too.

It seems that my condition had improved greatly in the past 10 days, and the vet provided us with more medications. I am still not having any control over my hind legs but my front legs had grown stronger. I am also able to crawl some short distance by dragging myself around.

My human guardian looks happier now, and so am I. You see, we pets demand very little from our human owners other than shelter, food and love. As long as our human owners are happy, we will be happy too.

I have also overheard that if my condition continues to improve, my human owners may make me a wheel-chair. Wow! I can’t wait to be on the wheel. I was just wondering whether I will get a Porsche or a Ferrari. Even a BMW will do fine for me. I am sure the family dog, Happy, will watch jealously as I move around the house with my new cart.

I am already quite well adjusted to my condition. You can see how I usually sleep from the photo below:

As my condition is not reversible, I am only praying that it will not get any worse than it already is. I do not know when I will need to cross the rainbow bridge, but today is definitely not the day.

Certainly not today!

Posted by: Bulldog

Who Is the Cutest Rabbit of Them All

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who’s the cutest rabbit of them all?

It’s me -- BeBe, of course! Sometimes I find it so difficult to understand human mom. She had decided to take rabbit mum’s and Zhai Zhai’s photo without me. Since I certainly would not want to be left out, I managed to squeeze in-between them, just in time before human mom released the shutter.

Of all the rabbits in the house, I am the cutest rabbit. I am not bragging. It is a matter-of-fact as is frequently admitted by human mom and dad. Don’t you agree when you look at the above photo?

When I was just a new-born, I am the smallest in size among six other bunnies. Our human owner had originally intended to keep only one bunny and re-home the other bunnies. Guess who did they choose? They thought that they should keep me, not that because I am cute (at that time) or for other reasons. They decided to keep me because they thought that I am ugly and would be difficult to find a good home for me!

How ridiculous! Since that day, I have been working hard to look cute. Because I was the smallest bunny, I’ve decided that if no one is going to look after me, I have to learn to look after myself. That is how I learn to bite whoever that comes too close for my comfort. Now, in addition to being the cutest rabbit in the house, I am also known as the rabbit that bites!

I am a very easy to be pleased. I am not a choosy eater and whenever our human owner bring me for a holiday, I will enjoy it to the fullest. I am the most playful rabbit in the house, and naturally one of the happiest one too.

My favourite game is to hide behind a furniture and wait for rabbit dad to approach. As he comes near, I will plunge forward to nib him and give him a fright. As he runs away, I will chase him from behind.

I love all the rest of the rabbit family members very much, and will never fail to groom them everyday. However, rabbit dad is still my idol. I always observe how he eats, sits, sleeps and other behaviour and would very often imitate him. Imitating rabbit dad’s behaviour amuses human dad too!

Even though I had made a boo-hoo out of myself by crying out loud twice during shower, everyone knows that I am the toughest rabbit of the family. On those occasions that I cried out loud during shower, you can’t blame me, really.

The first time happened on my first shower and I was still a bunny rabbit. I was actually surprised why I cried during a shower a couple of months back, but I thought that some water had got into my nose and I began seeing some big air bubbles forming from my nose! That does not look good at all.

Luckily, human dad quickly wipes off the bubble from my nose and pacifies me. After all, I am still the baby of the pet rabbit family and always will be.

Posted by: BeBe

Every Rabbit Got Sick Sometimes

Our readers who have been following our Pet Rabbit Tales would know that Bit Bit visited the vet recently. He had developed some red rashes in his ears, which human mom and dad claimed had caused him to develop fever.

The vet did not say anything about fever, but gave a bottle of pink solutions to be applied on his ears. Within days, Bit Bit seemed to have got better and I was frequently teasing him about his pink coloured ears.

It was then my turn to develop reddish dots on my ears. I must have got it from Bit Bit. This makes me feel moody and tired all the time and my ears have burning sensation. For the first time of my life, I ate much less than the other rabbits combined.

I don’t know why it took so long for human dad and mom to notice that I am unwell, and without asking if it is okay with me, they hauled me from my resting place and started painting my ears pink with the pink solutions that the vet provided for Bit Bit.

Guess what? No rabbits dared to tease me about my pinkish ears. You know why? Not wanting to take chances, human mom and dad had decided that every Pet Rabbits family must have their ears painted pink with the solutions. Zhai Zhai’s ears have the most obvious pink.

I have now recovered my appetite and feeling well again. All of us even have a good time playing out-door in the garden on last week’s Sunday.

For me, even though I am very particular about my appearance (I am a female, after all), I am more concerned with all the rabbit food and treats that I’ve missed out when I was not feeling well.

Posted by Moi Moi

A Trip to the Vet

Does it look like I am having a Monday blue? Since last week’s Tuesday, human mom had discovered some red rashes on my ears. I have been quite grumpy and growls at the other rabbits and when human dad tried to lift me. I have been sleeping a lot too.

As I am still eating normally, human dad suggested that they observe me for one more day to see if my condition improves. On Thursday, human mom and dad finally decided to bring me to the vet. And yes, it was against my will.

No pet rabbits like to make a trip to the vet. Firstly, after the previous long trip travelling in human dad’s old junky car to some highland resorts, I am still reluctant to make any travel again. Secondly, pet rabbits do not like to visit places where we are not familiar with, especially to the vet.

Even though I tried to protest by growling at human dad, they still packed me into the pet carrier and off we go. Human dad tried to coax me on the way to the vet. Our regular vet, Dr. Hoo was extremely busy on that day. I think we have waited for something like two hours before Dr. Hoo inspected me. Human dad later told me that we have waited for only fifteen minutes but I think he made a mistake.

The inspection table was cold and Dr. Hoo inspected my ears and body thoroughly, while human dad explained to him what was wrong. Rather, it sounded like human dad was trying to convince him that there was something wrong with me.

Dr. Hoo also asked that I be weighed. The scale reads 2.9kg (although I don’t quite understand what that means.) Dr. Hoo later gave me some pinkish solutions to be applied on the ears. Gosh! How I hate solutions. How I hate pink! I just don’t like this whole visit.

There is one pleasant news from this visit. Dr. Hoo said that I am not overweight! You hear that, didn’t you, human dad and mom? So, please make sure that you all stop commenting that I am overweight and take that as an excuse to limit my carrot nibbling time or reduce the portion of pellets. And good for you, human mom, you can continue pampering me with corn nuggets every afternoon.

Now, one week later after visiting Dr. Hoo, I am well and a happy rabbit again. Moi Moi commented that my ears look a little bit pinkish in colour. Must be due to the pinkish solution!

Come back soon for more Pet Rabbit Tales!

Posted by Bit Bit

Brillante Weblog Award 2008

Drum roll, please...

The nominees of the Brillante Weblog Award 2008 goes to…

The Pet Rabbit Family! Human mom brought me and show me the birdie. Now, if only human mom allowed me, I would have eaten the birdie.

The birdie was really stubborn and just refused to leave even after human mom had tried to shooed it away. Not only the birdie had refused to leave, it had dropped some of its droppings on the bathroom floor.

For your information Mr. Birdie, even though I am just a rabbit, I am not afraid of you. Even cats feared me when they realised how big I am, so why should I fear you tiny little birdie?

You just continue to wait on top of the window, as I try to think of ingenius ways how I can catch you. Perhaps, I will just hop as high as I could so that I may reach you. They were boarded with us temporary as their human owners were going away for a vacation in a far far away land. Well, that was what human mom told me, and being a filial rabbit, I did not ask anymore.

They were supposed to be boarded with us for not more than one week. This plan had to change however, all thanks to Zhai Zhai. Zhai Zhai had always been quite a gentle rabbit and our human owner had attempted to introduce the two guest rabbits to Zhai Zhai. Big mistake! You see, Zhai Zhai is not as wise as me, and do not understand that they were just guests. He felt threatened by their presence and did not hesitate to bite.

The victim was White Nose, as he always like to poke his white nose into other rabbit's affair while with us. As a result of the bite, our human owners had to bring White Nose to our vet, Dr. Hoo. Over the next one week, human dad and mom were kept busy with the bandaging of White Nose's wound and nursing him. To help his wound heal faster, our human owners decided to allow Dr. Hoo to stitch his wound. It must have been painful for White Nose, but in no time, he was back to his mischievous self, running around the house.

Each time human dad bandaged his wound, in no time, White Nose would have undressed his own bandage. Soon, human dad gave up. Without anyone realising it, White Nose began to play doctor to his own wound by biting off the stitches one by one. When it was time to bring him to visit Dr. Hoo again, all the stitches had already been totally removed.

For that three weeks, our human owners had to stay with six rabbits in the house! Soon, it was time for Bull Dog and White Nose to return to their owner. I sure miss them, although I can't say the same for the other three members of the pet rabbit family. I wonder when will we be reunited again?

Posted by: Bit Bit

Pet Rabbit Names

All pet rabbit owners has their own philosophy when it comes to giving names to their pet rabbits. Many would agree that our human owner were not very creative when giving names to the Pet Rabbit family. However, all our pet rabbits' names were suitable for us.

When I was adopted by our human owner, they thought hard on what rabbit names to be given to me. Initially, they wanted to name me Wabbit, as it sounds suitable for rabbit. Eventually, they began calling me Bit Bit, which is soothing to the rabbit's ear. Bit Bit can be called in both a soothing tone or in a harsh tone. I love it best when our human owner call my name while cuddling me and petting my precious rabbit ears.

More than one year after adopted, human mom brought home a brown-colour female rabbit, which was in dire need to be adopted. Our owner's original intention was not to adopt her, but to temporary board with us until human grandma takes her home. As she is a female, human mom calls her Moi Moi. Again, it is an easy name to be called and responded by pet rabbit. The plan for Moi Moi to be adopted by someone else did not materialised as Moi Moi became pregnant soon after staying with us (whose fault, I wonder?) and gave birth to a litter of seven bunnies.

Rabbit breeders readers would be familiar that all rabbit moms spent less than 5 minutes each day in feeding their bunnies. To ensure that the bunnies survive, our human owner has to play the role of surrogate parents to the bunnies. They feed them with formulated dog's milk which is suitable for pet rabbits. Whatever remain that the little bunnies could not finish, Moi Moi would finish it. Not a drop of milk was wasted on each of the feedings.

Human owners had to name the bunnies as it is sometimes difficult to remember which is which. As many of these bunnies are to be given up for adoption when they are old enough, the rabbit names given to them were meant to be temporary. All the little bunnies were named according to their characteristic and behaviour. They are called Darling (he is the prettiest of them all and the first bunny to open his eyes), White Nose (he has prominent white fur nose), Bull Dog (he is fat and looks like a bull dog), Star Star (he has some white fur patch on his forehead that resemble a 5-pointed star), Wei Zhai (he was supposed to be adopted by Auntie Wei), BeBe (he looks and behave as a baby) and Third One (he resemble two other bunnies).

Eventually, Wei Zhai was renamed Zhai Zhai as Auntie Wei did not happen to adopt him and our human owners decided not to give him up for adoption after all. So now, you see, how our pet rabbit family got our names. Just for the benefit our some of our new pet rabbit readers, I would like to offer some suggestion when naming your pet rabbits.

Choose a name that is short, a single or two-syllable at the most, preferably repeating syllable. Pet rabbits find it easier to remember short syllable as we prefer to save our memory for better things, such as food.

Give your pet rabbit names that do not sound like command word. For example, do not call your pet rabbit "No" or "Come" or "Go". Your pet rabbits will get confused and so will you.

Give names that match your pet rabbit's behaviour or characteristics. For example, you would not want to call your rabbit Snowy when he is black in colour or Smiley when your rabbit is a grumpy old rabbit.

I guess that's all for this post at the Pet Rabbit Tales today. Stay tuned for more pet rabbit's tales!

Posted by: Bit Bit

Pet Rabbit Family Reunion - Almost

Those readers who has been following us on Pet Rabbit Tales know that our original pet rabbit family consists of two adult rabbits and seven cute little bunnies. As our human owner could not keep all the bunnies, five of the bunnies were given out for adoption.

Two of them recently join us for a pet rabbit family reunion as their human owner are going away for vacation. Their names are White Nose and Bulldog. This is their photo:

Strange names for rabbit, you would say. Well, all of us have strange rabbit names, except me. You see, our human owners are not that creative when it comes to naming rabbits. Moi Moi got her name as she is a female rabbit and it was not our owner's original intention to adopt her. She was supposed to put up at our house temporary only.

The other bunnies got their names as our human owner needs to be the surrogate parents to feed them with milk, one by one, when they were young. In order to remember which bunnies had been fed, our owner began to name them according to their look. Looking at the photo, I bet you can guess immediately who is White Nose. Bull Dog doesn't look exactly like a bull dog now, but that was how he looks like when he was still a bunny rabbit.

We will write another post on pet rabbit's names, but for today's post we like to share about our pet rabbit family reunion with Bull Dog and White Nose. Rabbits are highly dominant and protective animals, and to keep two "new" rabbits in the house is not a good idea for most of the pet rabbit family members.

As I am the most matured and senior rabbit, I believe that I have seen enough and know well what to expect. You see, after almost 5 years of my journey in life, I've grown tremendously wise and has far-sighted vision. To me, having Bull Dog and White Nose to be boarded with us is completely fine for me.

Moi Moi was especially hostile towards the two rabbits. BeBe and Zhai Zhai was slightly better behaved but still not that great as a host. Needless to say, I am the best host. Our human owners have to make sure that when the two guest rabbits are out of their cage, Moi Moi, BeBe and Zhai Zhai are kept in their own cage.

As far as the two guest rabbits are concerned, spending their boarding time with us is always like going for a vacation. They have plenty of time to run the house, were give corn nugget rabbit treats and share our favourite food. However, even though our human owner did not let Moi Moi, BeBe and Zhai Zhai see them out of their cage, these three rabbits still have great sense of smell and knows.

Then in less than 30 minutes, our two guest rabbits tire themselves already and went back into their own cage to take a rest. Moi Moi, Zhai Zhai and BeBe had their chance to run the house now and boy, are they mad when they smell the sense left behind by our guest rabbits. Zhai Zhai constantly nudge his nose on human dad to scold him for letting the guest rabbit out.

Pity human dad, all he can say is, "Ya, ya, ya. I let them out. They need to do some exercise, you know. Now, you be a good rabbit host, OK?" While Zhai Zhai seems to show that he accepts and understand what human dad said, I know he does not agree at all.

I guess Moi Moi, Zhai Zhai and BeBe still have plenty to learn about sharing and social etiquette. For me, as long as my sleep and food supply is not disturbed, I am fine with these two guest rabbits sharing my space.

Come back soon to Pet Rabbit Tales, and see ya!

Posted by: Bit Bit

Our Newest Pet Rabbit Toys

Thank you for returning to Pet Rabbit’s Tales. We have been away for quite a while, busy with other pet rabbit’s stuff and are glad to return to entertain our readers and provide some advice on pet rabbits.

We have seen some changes to our pet rabbit family’s lives over the past three weeks. For a start, we have been denied entrance into one of the rooms in the house, the one that we’ve mentioned in our earlier articles as having been conquered by the pet rabbit family. We have made this room as the playground for the pet rabbit family and have been so used to sleeping in the room until about two weeks ago. Our human owner told us that they are expecting some long-term guest and the room has to be turned into a guest room.

For the next one week, human mom and dad has to live with a group of sulky pet rabbits as we kept digging at the door and created a lot of problem for them as a sign of protest. For a change they decided to allow us to play at the balcony. However, we soon grew tired of the balcony and did not find anything interesting there at all.

Then three days ago, human dad brought home something exciting for the pet rabbit family. He brought home a tepee tent with a tunnel. For those readers who do not know, a tepee tent is a tent that native Red Indians use. Of course, the one that human dad brought home is just a play tent.

The tepee tent has two openings. One is a door opening which can be flap up and attached to the side of the tent. The other one is a round opening where the tunnel attaches to. The whole pet rabbit family fell in love with this newest toy immediately.

As human dad assemble the tepee tent, the entire pet rabbit family gather to supervise and check to ensure that he does not assemble it wrongly. Occasionally, Zhai Zhai will nudge his nose against human dad to ask him to speed up on his works.

As the most senior rabbit of the pet rabbit family, I get the priority to try out this toy first. Soon, the entire pet rabbit family gets our chance to run across the entire tunnel from one end into the other.

Even though we have lost our playground room, the tepee tent and tunnel is not such a bad trade-off after all. The whole pet rabbit now gets more chance to exercise as we challenge each other run the entire tunnel within the shortest time. Now it seems that BeBe is still the fastest, but I am training hard to beat his record soon.

Many of pet rabbit owners would probably realise that pet rabbits get bored with our toys quite easily. For now, we still love our tepee tent and tunnel. When we are tired with it, our human owners would need to a little bit more creative to vary it to make it interesting for us again.

Till then, come back soon to Pet Rabbit Tales for more tales and story. One of the complaints that many pet rabbits owners have are that they were not able to understand their pet rabbits’ language. As a matter of fact, it is equally frustrating to us, the pet rabbits, when we tried to communicate with you, the humans. To help to remedy this situation, we are going to share about the language that pet rabbits use to communicate with each other.

To be able to speak and understand pet rabbits’ language, you have to learn to think like a rabbit. Don’t expect us, the rabbits to understand you. You are supposed to be the smarter creature and understand about us. At least, that is what we think. Rabbits have our own culture and customs. The more you understand our behaviour, the easier it is for you to understand your pet rabbits’ language.

Before we go on, we like to make one point clear. We are rabbits. We do what rabbits do. We act as rabbits act. So, don’t expect us to behave like a dog or a cat. We are rabbits. All pet rabbits want is just a little bit of respect and affection, and in return, you will get plenty of affection and respect from us too.

The most distinct feature of rabbits is our ears. So, pay attention to our ears. However, some of the language sent out by your pet rabbits may be superficially similar, such as an angry rabbit, a scared rabbit or a rabbit that is asking to be groomed all have their ears back. You will need to pay particular attention to understand us, and we expect you to do that.

Pet rabbits also use a lot of special postures to signal to others. The followings describe what we mean:

When pet rabbits have their ears forward, such as in TV antenna position, it means that “Something has caught my attention." When we have our ears back, then it would either means that "I don’t like what you are doing", or "I am just giving my radar (my ear) a rest. Please remember to wake me up for snacks.”

However, when pet rabbits put our ears-back, but with our tail up, and growls and lunges when you try to pet us, then, that means that we are ready to attack you. So, watch out!

When pet rabbits have one ear back and the other ear forward or to the side, then that means that something has caught our attention but still do not merit our full attention. You will see this when we hear some distant strange noise.

We also communicate with our nose too. If your pet rabbits thrust their nose forward with their chin flat on the ground, then it means that we want you to pet us. However, if we nudge your shin with our nose, then it means, “Make way, you are in my path.”

If you hear your pet rabbits grinding their tooth softly, then it means that we are feeling very comfortable and content. If we are cats, you would be hearing us purring. However, if you hear us grind our teeth loudly, then it means that we are in pain and it is time to bring us to the vet.

When your pet rabbits nip you, then that is the first warning that we do not like what you are doing. It is like sending you a yellow card. If you still continue with what you are doing, then we will send you off with a big red card. And that means a bite. Ouch!

If we lick you, that means that we trust you. However, if your pet rabbits run around your legs in circle, watch out! It could mean, “Let’s play”, or it could mean “You have such a sexy leg. I want to court it and want to make love to it.”

When you see your pet rabbits dash across the room, jump up and makes a 180-degree turn in midair, don’t panic. They are doing the “binkie”. It means that they are happy.

If you see your pet rabbits who are grooming themselves, suddenly falls over on their side with their eyes close, don’t panic. They are not having a heart attack. They are just enjoying life.

Pet rabbits like to mount each other. It is just part of our behaviour to reproduce. It is also a message that we send to the other rabbits that, “We are the top rabbit here. So, give your respect and don’t fool around me.”

When we are sleeping, you will sometimes see our eyelids and ears twitch. You will even claim that you can see our whiskers vibrating. We are just in another world dreaming about bananas and carrots.

You will also sometimes notice that your pet rabbits rub her chin against table legs, human legs and whatever furniture that they can find. It is our ways of saying “This now belongs to me. I’ve left my scent.” When you see us rubbing our chin on a carrot offered to us, we are saying “We will eat you later.”

Pet rabbits also show few other posture to let you human know when we are not happy with you. When you see us turning our backside to face you, it means that we are not happy with you. However, if we still turn our head to look at you, then it means that we are giving you one small chance to make peace with us.

When we growl, then it means that we want you to leave us alone, and that you are not our favourite person now. Don’t keep pushing, or we will bite you.

When your pet rabbits stamp their hind feet, it means that we are frightened. “The enemy is coming, we need to warn the other rabbits.” So, comfort us. Tuck us back into our rabbit cages.

When we suddenly lie flat on the ground with ears folded flat, then that means that we are trying to perform a David Copperfield magic, to become invisible. This happens at the sudden appearance of danger.

There are more pet rabbits’ language that we wanted to share, but this post is getting a bit long. So, do come back for more Pet Rabbits Tales.

Pet Rabbit Cage

Welcome back to our pet rabbit tales. Along with questions about pet rabbit care, there must be some who are asking about housing for rabbits.

For quite a long time, most pet rabbits were kept out-door in rabbit hutches. However, in recent years, there were more and more owners who had agreed to the rabbits coming in-door. House rabbits usually live healthier and longer lives indoor.

Whether you intend to keep your pet rabbits in a rabbit cage or a hutch, there are few important things to note. The first is the size of the rabbit cage. Choose a rabbit cage or a hutch that is almost four times the size of your pet rabbits. This way, your pet rabbits will have plenty of space to stretch themselves.

One corner of the hutch or the rabbit cage should be reserved as the toilet area for the pet rabbits. Respect your pet rabbits when they are in the rabbit cage. Your pet rabbits may like to play outside the rabbit cage, but it should regard its cage as the safest place of all. It is like going home. Therefore, treat your pet rabbits cage with respect.

One of the key elements to be able to toilet-train your pet rabbit is giving him a rabbit cage that he feels comfortable with. If you are able to do that, then you have successfully completed step one of toilet-training your rabbit.

Okay, so much for the advice for your pet rabbits. Let’s start with our pet rabbit tales today. Since we are on the subject of rabbit cages, I like to share about our cages.

As what I have previously posted (read about our Pet Rabbit family), I was introduced to our human family on 1 February 2004. My pet rabbit cage was placed at the balcony as human dad’s original plan was to limit me to the balcony only. As of today, not only do I get to roam the whole house, but our pet rabbit family had successfully conquered one of the family room to be made as our playground. How great it feels to conquer the human world.

In less than 4 weeks, I was already allowed time to roam the house by myself, supervised by our human owner. I was also beginning to learn the house rules for pet rabbit such as no biting of furniture, electrical cables and no dropping pooh-pooh anywhere in the house.

As I have been made the king of my rabbit cage, for most of the time I am beginning to learn to use the cage as my toilet. There are those occasions when I forgot and dirty some part of the house and would get scolding from our human owner.

As it is sometimes quite hot at the balcony during the daytime, human dad had installed a small roof over the rabbit cage and some blinds to shelter the heat and rain. Gradually, my bond with our human owner got so strong that they allow me to sleep in their room at night.

As pet rabbit has strong sense of time (probably due to our own biological clock?), I get up at 6 am everyday and will jump on the bed to wake up human dad. This jumping on the bed is also a warning that he has to let me out to my rabbit cage if he wants to prevent me from dropping any pooh pooh on his bed!

I find that for some mystical reason, my lifestyle as the pet rabbit is totally synchronised to our human owner’s lifestyle. I sleep at the same time when they sleep and wake up at the same time that they wake up. When they leave to work, I have the whole balcony for myself and I spend most of my time sleeping during the day.

When Moi Moi joined our family, there was not enough space at the balcony for two rabbit cages, and human owner placed Moi Moi’s cage in the living room. As I always disturb Moi Moi due to my natural male rabbit instinct, I once again had to sleep in my own rabbit cage.

Soon, human dad moved both my cage and Moi Moi’s cage into the yard. Then came the great news (shocking news for our human owners)! Moi Moi was pregnant. The seven bunnies were born in Moi Moi’s cage on 29 November 2005.

Our human owner has to give up five of the bunnies for adoption when they were old enough. As the remaining two bunnies grow larger, there was inadequate cage space for both the whole pet rabbit family. Human dad finally bought us a big rabbit cage, which is spacious enough for all four of us.

Nowadays, we like our rabbit cage so much that sometimes we don’t even feel like coming out. And our poor human dad has to take half an hour each time when he gives it a thorough cleaning.

One more thing, we rabbits loves our cage dearly. We loves and demand clean rabbit cage. Even as human dad cleans our cage, we will closely monitor his work and gave him some scolding now and then. When he did a good job, we have our own rabbit’s way of saying thank you.

That’s all we have for our Pet Rabbit Tales today. Do come back soon.

Pet Rabbit Care - Shower

Those who have been considering of choosing rabbit as pet would have asked if it is very troublesome to care for a pet rabbit. Pet rabbits spend a lot of their time grooming themselves. Being clean is very important to a rabbit.

A rabbit cleaning routine will usually starts with the cleaning of the face, followed by the eyes and the ears. Pet rabbit treat their ears as very precious and would spend a lot of time cleaning them.

They shall then gradually move to their limbs (hands and legs), their body and their gender area too. In the wild, rabbits usually live in group and they spend a lot of their time to help groom each other. Rabbit in a group usually help each other de-matting entangled hair for body parts which they could not reach.

Any owner who is thinking of making a rabbit as pet, should be ready to spend time keeping your pet rabbit clean and ensure that their hair do not get entangled. The rabbit cage should also be cleaned daily to ensure that the rabbit is comfortable. One of the best ways to litter-train your pet rabbit is by ensuring that his cage is always the most comfortable place for him to rest.

Okay, that’s all for the advice that we have for those who are thinking of getting rabbit as pet.

Today, we like to share about one of our monthly routine of getting a nice shower. As rabbits regularly groom themselves, we do not need to be showered frequently. In fact, for most of the time, just using a wet towel to clean our face and our gender area is sufficient. However as we stay in a tropical country, sometimes we just felt the need to get a complete spring-cleaning of ourselves.

Most of the time, our human owner shall allow us the time to play in the garden in the morning. Then, one by one, the rabbits shall be brought into the bathroom for our warm water shower. Shower time is also a good time to bond with our human owner but not all the rabbit is of the same opinion. Moi Moi especially, hates shower. Human dad often get his whole hand scratched by Moi Moi during shower.

For some reasons, since young, I’ve learn to stand on my hind legs and lean on the wall of the bathroom. That makes showering such an ease for our human owner. Firstly, is to get all my fur wet with water. Next, is the shampoo part where our human owner will massage deep into our fur. This is the part most of us enjoy.

All of us enjoy different part of the shower. For me, I enjoy the most when human dad clean my ears with a wet towel. For Zhai Zhai, he enjoys the shampooing part and for Bebe it is the part where human dad clean his chin with a wet towel. Moi Moi do not enjoy any part of the shower at all. She just can’t wait to get out as soon as possible.

To prevent water from accidentally entering into our nose and ears, these body parts are usually cleaned with a towel. After rinsing off the shampoo, our human owner will apply conditioner and work it deep into our rabbit fur. After final rinsing, we are wrapped in towel like baby and carried out of the bathroom to be dried. First we were wiped dry with towel followed by using the electrical hair-dryer.

Our task has just begun as we continue drying and grooming ourselves for the next 2 hours. Showering time is always a tiring time for both our human owner and for us. It usually takes up to 2 hours to have all of the 4 rabbits showered and dried.

We would soon retire to sleep either in our human owner’s room or in the rabbit cage. In the evening, it is such a good feeling, feeling clean. It feels as if we have been much lighter. Moi Moi and Bebe will usually do the Binkie in the evening. We then have our nails clipped and manicured. Most of the rabbit resisted having their nails clipped and this means more scratches on human dad’s hand. Ouch! That must have hurt.

The ritual for the day usually ends with plenty of hugs and cuddlings from our human owner and showered with praises about our soft fur and how nice we smell. The best part of the whole ritual is going to sleep knowing how much our human owner loves us, and getting the praise that I am still the best-behaved pet rabbit during the whole ritual.

Come back soon for more advice for those who is thinking of choosing rabbit as pet and for more pet rabbit tales.

Choosing Rabbit as Pets

Keeping a Rabbit as a Pet

Human dad was often asked the questions of how he decided to adopt rabbits as pets. I was told that human mom had wanted a pet, and one day while waiting for the traffic light to turn green, he saw a big rabbit poster outside a pet shop. He then thought, why not?

There were a lot of things that he did not know though about rabbits when he decided to get one. For example, he did not know that pet rabbit can be toilet-trained. He did not know that we respond to names when being called. He did not know that we always try to outsmart him. He did not know that pet rabbit need lots of attention. He did not know that we shed off a lot of hair. He did not know that pet rabbit has temper and easily get offended by the most trivial remarks.

Anyway, human daddy, it is far too late to regret since you are now the human dad to 4 rabbits, not just me. I bet that when you first brought me home, you were not aware of the grave responsibility of keeping a pet rabbit. You have thought that you could just keep me at the balcony and it would be fun to see a little bunny hopping around the balcony to keep yourself amused. Ah, how wrong you were!

I have first met human dad and mom on 31 January 2004. Human mom and dad decided to drop-by at the pet shop near to our house to check if the shop sells any rabbit. And there I was looking at them, pleading for them to bring me home. I was with another of my sibling. I was disappointed when after talking to the shop owner, they decided to leave without me.

The next morning, human dad and mom returned for me. I guessed my pleading look must have touched their heart. They have finally decided to have rabbit for pet. First, they bought the cage, drinking bottle and the dish bowl. Then came the selection time. Human mom had wanted a more active rabbit. It happens that I was very alert and my sibling was sleeping. I was chosen immediately by human mom. I remembered nibbing her finger as I was just too scared to be separated from my sibling.

After buying some rabbit pellets, a toy ball, comb and nail clipper, human mom and dad was ready to bring me home. My cage was placed at the balcony. Fearing that it would be very hot during the afternoon, human mom and dad had decided to cover the cage with some hard board and towel. I was also given some towel to sleep with at night. For the first time for quite a while, I was being fed adequately. I felt quite embarrassed to be stared at for the whole day, but at the same time, this was the first time that I have been given so much attention.

Then came the night, and they were many guests who drop-by the house. I was very scared. It was a good thing that human dad and mom had prohibited anyone lifting me away from my cage. It looks like human dad and mom had done some research on rabbit and decided that I should be introduced to the human family environment gradually.

Two days later, they decided that it was time for me to explore the world outside my cage. With much persuasion and effort, I was tempted to leave my cage for food. They hid some pellets inside the plastic ball that they bought me, and I began to push the ball with my nose. As the ball rolls, pellets would fall out from the ball, and I got my treat. Boy, I did not know that I have to work so hard to get my food! Next, is the exercise to enhance my smell sense. Of course, rabbits have strong sense of smell! Human dad held some food in one of his hands and asked me to guess which hand. I played along. Of course I could get it right all the times, but I decided to amuse them a little by picking the wrong hand occasionally.

That was how I build my bond and trust with human dad and mom. As the bond deepen, I was more daring to explore more places in the house. I was not toilet-trained yet. Human dad decided that it was not the right time yet, and he decided to fence up the balcony with plastic removable fence. Without much effort, I had been able to push away the plastic fence and hop into the living room!

Next, he decided to tie the fence to the metal grill of the balcony. What a big surprise it was for him when he discovered that I was in the living room again! Perhaps human dad has forgotten that rabbit have very sharp teeth. I have bitten off the string that ties the fence. See, I told you that rabbits are smart creatures, haven’t I?

Human dad finally decided that it is not possible to keep me out at the balcony and agreed to me coming into the house, but being monitored closely. That was the beginning of the rabbit campaign to conquer the human world.

I will continue this story some other time, so do tune in for more Pet Rabbit Tales.

Pet Rabbit Tales | Cost of Living

Dearest Bit Bit, Moi Moi, Zhai Zhai and BeBe,

Due to the rising cost of living, we are compelled to review our pet rabbit ownership agreement. From its content, it is obvious that you are not aware of the latest development of the Pet Rabbit Act, 2000 (amended 2008). Under this new Act, the title of human owner has been changed to human servant. We also need not remind you that the Act has all along accords to pet rabbit, the ownership of whatever furniture marked with their scent. As we have not seen any of you marking your scent by rubbing your chins on furnitures, etc., we presumed that you have no objection to us taking over all the items in the house that bears our scent with immediate effect.

As your title is now human servant, your claim to cost incurred by the Rabbit Family Inc. could not be admitted. Being considerate rabbit bosses, we have decided that you may still retain your freedom to drive and leave or enter the house at will. However, we wish to remind you that should we find you abusing this freedom (such as leaving home without feeding us, or neglect to cuddle and pet us), we shall immediately revoke this privilege.

We trust that you are happy serving us and look forward to more carrots to come!

Lovingly yours,

Zhai Zhai

on behalf of the
Rabbit Family Inc.

Pet Rabbit Tales | I Did Not Sleep In My Cage Last Night

Welcome back to Pet Rabbit Tales. This article is posted by Bit Bit. Human mom was busy working for some events to be held soon at her workplace and dad was .... quite excited about some hub pages that he recently discovered over the internet. We rabbits always prefer to live life simple and not be bothered by so much. I think human should learn from us on how to manage their lives. Simple life = happy life. That's rabbit's philosophy.

Soon, human dad and mom seemed to be done with their stuff. I went for my toilet, and human dad fed the other three rabbits who were already in the cage, preparing for midnight snack. I heard human mom and dad asking themselves if I should sleep in the master bedroom tonight. Taking their hints, I ran out to the living hall. It has been quite some time since I last spent the night outside the cage, and I seems to be excited.

Human dad left some pellets in the dish bowl, switch off the lights and wished me and the other rabbits Good Night. I heard some hush sounds from the master bedroom as human mom and dad wished each other Good Night. Soon it was all silence. I bet that human dad and mom must have dozed off immediately, or was it I who has dozed off so soon? Ah, dreamland is always a nice place to visit.

The morning alarm usually goes off at 6:20am. At 6:15am, I decided to wake up human mom. I did that by scratching noisily at the wardrobe. That's rabbit's way of saying, "Bring me to the toilet now, or else I shall .... in this room." Human dad woke up, carried me to the cage and asked me, where did I sleep last night. Did I sleep in the living hall or did I sleep in the master bedroom?

I heard human dad and mom asking each other again where did I sleep. The truth is, dear human dad and mom, that 's my secret. The point is that, I've been a good rabbit the whole night and I've proven that you can trust me.

Soon, it's time for human dad and mom to leave for work and it's time for me to visit dreamland again. Only this time, it's from the cage.

If you like this article, do come back more often for more Pet Rabbit Tales.

What Do Pet Rabbits Eat - Yummy yummy!

When it comes to pet rabbit food, we want nothing short of what we deserve. After years of staying together, it seems that our human dad and mom understand us -- the rabbit family, perfectly well on this point.

So, what do we like? The whole rabbit family seems to have different opinion on this point. Undeniably, rabbit pellet is on the top of the list.

For me (Bit Bit), my preferences are as follows:

1) "SuperMix" Rabbit Pellet (Singapore product)
2) Carrot (has to be A-grade and not any inferior grade)
3) "Lapins" Rabbit Pellet (Canadia product)
4) Alfafa Hay
5) Green vegetables, especially lettuce

Zhai Zhai would love "Lapins" Rabbit Pellet to be on the top of the list as he prefer chewing softer food. BeBe is less choosy, and usually love whatever served to him and needless to say, Moi Moi is the easiest to please when it comes to rabbit food as she consumes whatever edible (sometimes inedible ones too).

Other than the rabbit food listed above, we also love occasional treats in the form of corn nuggets or banana. We know well that at our age, human dad and mom should reduce our pellets serving and should be serving us Timothy hay instead of Alfafa hay. They have on numerous times tried. But alas, old habit (or should I say diet) dies hard. We rather starve than to eat anything that we do not like.

Today, human dad went for his monthly shopping for our rabbit food again and came home with his two hands full. Poor human dad! He usually shop at a pet shop near to his work place and he is a familiar face there. Each time any of the staff meet him, they will ask, "Shopping for rabbit food again?" He even get 10% discount by being a Pet Family member.

As for us, all we care for is continuous supply of rabbit food. Well, haven't you heard that life is short and "Eat well today for we shall all die tomorrow?" (Shakespeare). Don't belittle us for we all have plenty of literature sense too. For eg., I love classical music, but we shall post more on that at some other time.

Rabbits are habitual creature and we prefer to stick to routine feeding time. Having live with human family for so long, we have been able to adjust our feeding routine in accordance to human dad and mom's routine.

We get our first feeding of the day at 7:30am everyday. Sometimes, our second feeding comes at 2pm or 3pm, but this is optional. Feeding us at dinner time is a must, or else we will never stop pestering our human dad and mom by creating nuisance. We do this by jumping on the sofa, chewing on electrical cables, furniture and sometimes human dad's favourite book too. You see, rabbits always have our way to get noticed. Our final feeding time comes just before bed-time.

There are many interesting tales related to our food, but we shall post more on that at some other time. So, do return for more pet rabbit tales.

Pet Rabbit Tales – Introduction

Welcome back and thank you for returning to Pet Rabbit Tales – real rabbit stories for children and adults alike.

We should have started this blog by introducing ourselves first. We got carried away by the rabbit vs. snakes You Tube video, and our apologies. Anyway, here is all about us - pet rabbit telling real tales:

Bit Bit

I am the rabbit dad and the head of the rabbit family. I was adopted by our human dad and mommy on 1 February 2004. When I was adopted, I was likely less than 10 weeks old and was skinny. I am a gentle rabbit but occasionally I admit that I do loose my temper though. What breed do I belongs to? Frankly, I don’t know. Neither do my human dad and mom. But I have heard they once said that I am just a mixed breed. Later on, they convinced themselves that I am actually a Holland breed. I think I like to be associated with the Holland breed better.

Moi Moi

Nice name, uh? I am the rabbit mom of the family. Unlike Bit Bit, I have thin coat. Did someone just say I look like Peter Rabbit? I was adopted some time in September 2005 and was maybe 10 weeks old at that time. I think I am from the England breed. That’s what I heard my human mom and dad once said. My favourite pastime is eating. My biggest responsibility in the house is to finish all the rabbit food. Hmm, how I love eating! My nick-name? Vacuum cleaner, from the way I eat.

Zhai Zhai

Weird name? Well I was renamed, actually. I was born into this family on 29 November 2005. How times fly. I have grown a lot through the years, both emotionally and physically. I am now bigger size than my rabbit dad. Here’s a million-dollar question for you – if my rabbit dad is a Holland breed and my rabbit mom is an England breed, then what rabbit breed am I? Mixed breed? Wrong answer. I becomes an European breed. I have a nick-name too: they call me Giant.

BeBe

Well, well, well. From my name you would have guessed that I am the youngest of them all. Born on 29 November 2005, I was the last bunny to open my eyes, and my human dad and mom immediately presumed that I am the youngest bunny. I don’t mind, as being the youngest in this family always have its advantages. But... don’t mess with me, because I bite. And of course, I am an European breed.

Well, that’s all we have for this post. Many of us think that rabbits are just prey animals who will fled the moment they sense the least sign of danger. On the contrary, rabbits can act very fiercely to protect themselves. Watch this You Tube Video on how a rabbit decided to "attack" a snake (yes, you did not read wrongly).

As we are at the bottom of the food chain, naturally, we are always cautious about who is near us. Our best defence is still to flee. However, we do not always flee. We sometimes meet our foe as a man. The best part which you may not know is, we know when to flee and when to fight.

Takes for instance, there was once when a big bird flew into our apartment. Both me and my darling rabbit wife (more about her some other day) is in the room. The lost birdie was hovering above us, panic and trying to fly out. What did we do?

I hid behind the door among the shelves. My dear rabbit wife quickly ran out of the room. The birdie was finally chased out from our apartment by our human dad. You see, I was not afraid actually. We knew that we would not be able to attack the birdie even if we wants to, since it is flying so high. So we waited for our human dad to come into the room and chase the birdie out.

On another instance, human dad and mom brought us (me, my wife and did I tell you that we have 2 little bunnies?) to the garden to play. Soon, a birdie was trying to get near us. My rabbit wife chased it away!

I was very courageous too. On two other occasions, I've actually chased human intruders away. It's fun to see how they run for their lives.

So you see, we rabbits are no cowards. We are simply intelligent animals that know when to fight and when to flee.

Stay tuned for more pet rabbit tales!
